Genesis 6:5-6 (KJV) Says, "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart."
In the above scripture God is looking at man's behavior prior to the great flood that he sent upon the earth in order to destroy it. He saw that the people on earth were behaving in wicked ways. He saw the many sins they were committing without hesitation. God looked on their thoughts, and on their hearts and saw an abundance of evil. The wickedness was growing and it was continual. Their behavior disappointed God so much that as the above scripture tells us He regretted that He ever created man. Their behavior broke His heart.
God created mankind in His own image. The first were Adam and Eve. He created a beautiful garden, and placed them there. He placed trees in the garden full of fruit for them to eat, and placed restriction on just one tree telling them not to eat the fruit of it. Adam and Eve failed to obey God, and ate the forbidden fruit. Casual sin became more and more frequent on earth as time went on until it became so great that God decided to destroy the earth with a massive flood. In order to preserve man during the flood, he chose Noah, who was living righteously, to build an ark that would sustain him, his sons, and all of their wives along with species of each animal He had created. God sent the flood and destroyed the earth saving only Noah, his family, and the animals that went into the ark along with them.
God created mankind intending for us to live happy lives in a beautiful environment, and He provided everything we needed in order to do so. How disappointed He must have been, when things didn't turn out that way. Can you imagine how He must have felt looking down on earth, and seeing the evil that man was involved in after having created them in His own image? Can you imagine how He must have felt when He looked at their thoughts and saw what they had on their hearts? Can you imagine evil so rampant that it warranted the destruction of everything and everybody except those aboard the ark? I wonder what God thinks today as He looks upon mankind, and our behavior? I feel fairly certain that like in the days of Noah, there are many people breaking His heart.
Have you ever suffered heart break? Have you ever had one of your children do something that disappointed and hurt you? If so you know that pain. With that said, remember we are God's children. Have you ever loved someone tremendously that didn't love you back? Have you ever had someone that you've stood firmly by hurt you? I have, and the pain is excruciating. My point is most of us have experienced heart break in one way or another. Do we want to inflict that kind of pain on God? He gave us life, meets all of our needs, is always there for us, blesses us, answers our prayers, and loves us tremendously. I don't think any of us want that. The problem is I don't think we pause and consider the fact that our behavior can greatly disappoint God, and that our thoughts and actions can hurt Him, but they can. God placed a rainbow in the clouds after the great flood as a promise that He would never completely destroy the earth again with water. Let me ask you, however, if God were looking for someone to build an ark today, would He consider you?
If you have a prayer request and would like me to pray for you, send me a message and I will be more than happy to do so. May God bless you.
