Creation

Genesis chapter one (KJV) tells us that God created all things. In verses 1-5 He creates darkness and light, and calls them day and night. This He does on the first day. In verses 6-8, on the second day, He creates a firmament that divides the waters under it from the waters above it, and He calls the firmament Heaven. On the third day verses 9-13 tell us that God made dry land appear and called it earth, and He gathered the waters together, and called them seas. This portion of scripture goes on to tell us that He created the grass, herb yielding seed, and fruit trees also. On the fourth day verses 14-19 tell us that God made two great lights to light upon the earth. The greater light He created to rule the day, and the lesser to rule the night, and He created the stars also.Verses 20-23 tell us that on the fifth day God created all creatures in the sea, and He created the fowls of the air. On the sixth day verses 24-31  tell us that God created all beasts and creatures that creep upon the earth, and He created man.

There are a few theories on how exactly everything in existence came to be. Some say there was a Big Bang, and then low and behold there everything was in all its complexity, and beauty. I have to wonder how anyone could truly believe this theory whole heartily, because I have yet  to see aftermath from a big bang result in anything constructive. In fact, I've only seen big bangs result in destruction, and ruin.

Then there are some who believe that a couple of  men sat around and thought up each individual thing such as a tree for instance, and as they had the idea for each thing it appeared. Let me  just say that I have thought about quite a few things in my life, none of which suddenly appeared. Imagine sitting around, and coming up with a complicated design like that of  a tree, and it suddenly appearing. Okay wow, and I must add that this theory leaves me wondering where the two men came from?

There are also those who believe everything was formed from a cell which somehow miraculously appeared on its own. Apparently in their opinion everything else developed, and evolved from that one cell. Again wow, all I can say is that would have to be one amazing and powerful cell. If I bought this theory, I would have to believe that I have distant relatives in the plant and animal kingdom.

It is hard for me to imagine anyone not recognizing the fact that only almighty God could be responsible for creation. Consider the design, function, and purpose of everything in the world.  Ask yourself why the ocean stops at the shore line and what power it is that keeps such an abundance of water from consuming all the land. Think about the design and function of the sun, moon, and stars. The design, function, and purpose of each individual thing that was created and their individual parts is nothing short of amazing. The perfect timing for so many things created is also amazing. For example, human beings, child development and birth,  night and day, the seasons of the year, animals hibernating, plants growing, trees shedding their leaves, and the list goes on and on.

Anyone who takes the time to think about just one part of creation, and consider its detail, design, function, and purpose would be forced to admit it's complicated. In fact, creation is so complicated, so perfect in timing, in purpose, in function, and in design that only God who is all knowing, and all powerful could be the creator of such divine design.

If you have a prayer request and would like me to pray for you, leave me a message and I will be more than happy to do so. May God bless you.

Wisdom

I Kings 3:5 (KJV) Says "In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee." In I Kings 3:7-9 (KJV) Solomon responds saying "And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: And I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?" Solomon's response pleased God and in I Kings 3:11-14 (KJV) He answers Solomon saying "Because thou hast ask this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to  thy words: lo I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honor: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy Father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days."

The above scripture tells us a great deal about the kind of man Solomon was. He put the people above himself. When God asked him what he would like from Him, he ask for an understanding heart so he would have the wisdom to judge the people fairly. He was a kind hearted, understanding, unselfish, caring and fair man. If this had not been the case, he would have ask that God grant him things he alone could benefit from. God blesses and honors those of a pure heart, and so as it turned out because Solomon made the request that he did God granted him not only a wise and understanding heart, but riches and honor also with a promise to lengthen his days, if Solomon would continue to walk in his ways, and keep his statutes and commandments like his Father David did.

Wisdom comes in many forms, and it is something that we, like Solomon, should desire. It comes in the form of life lessons where we gain knowledge by experience. It comes in the form of private and public education, and it can be gained from being self-taught. It also comes in the form of common sense. Wisdom can be gained by listening to people share their past experiences with us, and from the advice given us by our parents, grandparents, and other loved ones.

Each form of wisdom that I mentioned in the above paragraph is sought after by many. There are a number of people in pursuit of all forms of education. We are familiar with that fact, and more than likely most of us hear about it daily via one avenue or another. I often hear people express heart-felt passion when talking about school and college for their children, and sometimes for themselves. I hear people talking about how they learned to do this or that,  but I rarely hear anyone mention the desire for the greatest form of wisdom one could ever hope to gain. I am talking about the wisdom to read and understand God's word in the manner He meant for it to be understood. The one book containing more wisdom than any person could grasp in one lifetime, and people tend to shy away from it.

I've heard many excuses as to why people don't read and study God's Word. One of the most popular would have to be "I tried, but I don't understand it", and then there's "I don't have time," and the list goes on and on. The truth is, if we have the desire to read and study God's word we can and will do it. If you feel you have a problem understanding it pray before you begin reading, and like Solomon ask God for the wisdom to understand it. Ask him to lead, guide, and direct you through it, and he will shine light on it  as you read and study. I would like to encourage you to read the Bible in its entirety at least once in your lifetime. It is truly an amazing book, and it is imperative that you know for yourself what it says in order to avoid being misled by anyone teaching false information. If you feel intimidated, and don't want to begin reading at Genesis, then a great place to start is the book of Proverbs, it offers a tremendous amount of wisdom, and is not difficult to understand. If you begin reading, and come to something you don't understand keep reading, don't give up. It seems people are quicker to give up on reading the Bible than they are many other things, and that is a shame considering the value of it's content.  Purchase a research Bible, and look up the meaning of the scripture for yourself, or make a note of the verses you don't understand, and ask someone known to be knowledgeable in God's Word to explain it to you.

Consider this, there is no topic for which you have a question that the Holy Bible does not have the answer to. There is no emotion, trial, or tribulation, that you are going through that the Holy Bible can't provide comfort for. These facts alone should prove to you what an amazing book it is. The Holy Bible is God's instruction for our lives, and we all know what happens when we try to do anything without first reading the instructions. If you don't own a copy of the Holy Bible purchase one. If you have one somewhere find it, and dust it off. If you have one and you read and study it wonderful. Friends I can't stress enough the importance, and the benefits of reading and studying God's Word. It is food for your Spirit, and it is an avenue God can and will use to speak to you. I urge you to get in God's Word, read and study it, and to do so daily.

If you have a prayer request and would like me to pray for you, leave me a message and I will be more than happy to do so. May God bless you.

What Will People Think?

Job 34:21 (KJV) says "For His eyes are upon the ways of man, and He seeth all his goings." Job 31:4 (KJV) says "Doth not He see my ways, and count all my steps?" Proverbs 5:21 (KJV) says "For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and He pondereth all his goings." Proverbs 15:3(KJV) says "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good." Jeremiah 16:17 (KJV) says "For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes." I Corinthians 3:16 (KJV) says "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"

The above verses of scripture confirm that God sees and is aware of every step we take. They confirm that after we accept God's precious gift of salvation our bodies become temples of God, and His Spirit comes to dwell in us.

Have you ever been somewhere and felt compelled to hide in order to keep another person from seeing you there?  Maybe you were entering a rated R movie or were in the bar portion of a restaurant for example, when suddenly you notice someone you attend Church with looking at you on their way in to see a Disney movie or from the restaurant area of the bar you're sitting in.  Instantly, you panic as you ponder the probability that word of your activity will get out, and you're left wondering what people will think.

Maybe you've blurted out a curse word, and then became mortified when you realize a particular person overheard you. Maybe outside of Church, you dress in a manner that you would prefer your congregation not see. I once overheard a girl say to her friend "hide me that lady coming this way goes to my Church, and I don't want her to see me in this short skirt with all this make-up on." Have you ever been laughing at a dirty joke, and had to interrupt the person telling it with a statement like "hold up this guy walking over here goes to my Church?" Have you ever had an unexpected visitor ring your doorbell, and upon recognizing the visitor you had to shout for someone to turn off the television before they saw what you were watching? Have you ever been on vacation with someone who becomes very uncomfortable upon discovering that someone from their Church is staying at the same hotel they are? That is grounds for collapse for some individuals, and can even warrant a declaration that their entire vacation is ruined.  Discovery's like that can really disappoint some people. Do you alter your entire personality, around the people you attend Church with, around your Pastor, or any other human being? If so, I challenge you to ask yourself what's up with that, and to answer the question honestly.

Many people spend a great deal of time worried over what people will think about where they go, what they do, what they wear, and everything else under the sun, but you never hear  people express concern over what God will think about any of it. The above scripture points out that the Spirit of God lives within us after we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, and it is of tremendous importance that we remember that.

If you have been saved, I would like to encourage you to keep in mind at all times that the Spirit of God lives in you, and that He is aware of every step you take. If  things are coming out of your mouth that you wouldn't want God to hear, clean it up, He hears you. If you are going to places that you know God wouldn't patronize, find somewhere else to go because you are taking Him in with you. If you are behaving in a manner that you feel compelled to hide from other Christians, change your behavior because friends you aren't hiding it from God. When you are selecting a movie or television program to watch, or music to listen to remember your body is a temple of the Lord, and  that He's  watching and listening with you.

I think that we live in a world that is so high tech and fast paced that we don't  take the time to think about the things we say and do, and how those choices affect us. I know most people don't stop to consider the fact that God witnesses everything, and that He lives within those who have been saved before making basic decisions like what to watch on television.  Most individuals simply follow what's  popular, hip, and happening in the world, with no ill will intended, but that's a mistake. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, remember He lives in you, and consider that fact as you go about your daily life. We need to stop worrying so much about what people will think of us and our actions, and start worrying more about what God will think.

If you have a prayer request and would like me to pray for you, leave me a message and I will be more than happy to do so. May God bless you.

Remember Who You Are

Genesis 1:27 (KJV) Says "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them." I Peter 4:10 (KJV) Says As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."

The above verse of scripture from the book of Genesis tells us that God created us in His own image. God is all things good. He is almighty, powerful, kind, loving, forgiving, merciful, and so much more. We will never be exactly like God because we are human beings, but we were created in His image. I don't think any of us would consciously look down upon anything God created, yet when it comes to ourselves we sometimes fail to remember who we are, and who created us. We are children of the most high God, created by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and He loves each one of us tremendously. He loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die on the cross for our sins. Knowing that God created us, He created us in His own image, and that He loves us enough to sacrifice His only Son for us, how can we look down on ourselves or any one else for that matter?

Not only did God create us, but as the above scripture taken from the book of  I Peter tells us, He gave us all at least one gift. He gifted each of us in at least one area, and therefore we are all gifted in special ways, thanks to our Lord and Savior. Knowing this, how can we say things like "I'm no good at anything," or "I'm worthless" or talk badly about ourselves in any way? Negative statements like this should never come out of our mouths, and if they enter our minds we need to reject them immediately recognizing that Satan put them there. Replace the lies with facts. You were created by almighty God in His own image, you are gifted, and God loves you tremendously.

Maybe you're not happy with where you're at right now in your life, but don't allow that to fuel negativity and then aim said negativity it at yourself. Instead, go to God in prayer surrender all to Him, and let Him know that you realize you are His creation, His child, and that you are gifted. If you are not sure what your gift or gifts are, ask God in prayer for the answer to that question. You probably already know what your gift or gifts are, but have never viewed them as such. What things do you do well? What do you have a passion for and enjoy doing? Don't waste the precious gift or gifts that God has blessed you with, put them to good use by allowing Him to accomplish whatever He desires to accomplish by working through you.

Whenever you're discouraged or feeling down, stop and take a moment to remember who you are. Remember that you are special, and that you are the only one of you. Remember that God created you in His own image, and that you are gifted. Remember God loves you so much that He sent  his only Son to die on the cross for your sins. Decide to live your life walking in love, with joy and God's divine peace in your heart. Remember you are a child of God, and He loves you tremendously.

If you have a prayer request and would like me to pray for you, leave me a message and I will be more than happy to do so. May God bless you.

A Good Name

Proverbs 22:1 (KJV) says "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold."

The above scripture points out to us that having a good reputation is more important than having wealth. There was a time when people trusted one another to the degree that all they needed for confirmation on a deal or that a promise would be kept was one another's word and a handshake. Unfortunately, in today's world people who can be trusted using those methods are becoming scarce.

There are many ways to harm our reputation, and create a bad name for ourselves, and we can do so with a quickness. At work for instance, if we do a poor job, show up late, call out sick repeatedly, or fail to get along well with our co-workers, we do damage to our reputation. If we demonstrate these types of behavior at work, how long can we keep our job, and what boss would be willing to write us a letter of recommendation for the next one? If we have our own business and deal deceitfully with others, how long before our reputation is ruined, and our business goes under?

We can damage our reputation with friends, and family in many ways also. If we tell someone we are going to do something, we need to do it. We shouldn't keep others waiting because we can't manage to get anywhere on time. Being late happens to all of us on occasion, but to do it on a regular basis screams I want to be in control, and my time is more important than yours.  We should never borrow money, material items, or anything else from someone, and then fail to repay them or return the item we borrowed. These type behaviors also damage our reputation, and create a bad name for us. We come across as though we are not concerned about the other person, after they were kind enough to help us out when we needed it. In the end people who do these things will need help again, and their past history will make it very difficult for them to find anyone willing to help them.

We can damage our reputation via our behavior as well. If we are exuding arrogance, jealousy, selfishness, envy, greed, anger, complaining constantly, spewing nothing but negativity for instance, we are harming our reputation. As a result, we will probably spend a great deal of time alone too, because who wants to be around people who demonstrate these behaviors on a regular basis? The answer is nobody. I'm not saying we can't vent to our friends on occasion, or have a bad day in general, we all do from time to time. What I'm talking about is allowing these negative behaviors, to take over becoming what we are known for, and defining who we are.

When we do things that damage our name and reputation, we are harming ourselves in a major way, and often times we fail to notice it until late in the game. It takes only a short time to wreak havoc on a good name and ruin a good reputation, but it takes quite a while to rebuild them. If you have done things that have given you a bad name or poor reputation I would like to encourage you to begin rebuilding it today. It is never to late, but you must be patient, and remember that it does take time. If you have hurt someones feelings, mistreated them, or wronged them in some way, apologize to them and consider they may need more time to heal, and that healing has to be in their time not yours. If you have demonstrated a poor work ethic in the past it may take a while to find a new job, but when you do, make the changes necessary to ensure you are creating a good name for yourself. Treat people fairly and with respect.

As Christians, it is very important that we have a good name and can be trusted. If we have developed a bad reputation what kind of witnesses are we for our Lord and Savior? How can He use us to accomplish His work and fulfill the plans He has for us if we are living our lives in a manner that is destructive to our name and reputation? When we do things that give us a bad name, and others know we proclaim to be a Christian we are actually doing harm to the very definition of the word. What kind of example are we setting for non-believers?

First and foremost, as Christians we should desire in our hearts to live our lives in a manner that is pleasing to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We should do all things to His glory, and we should be setting a good examples for others to follow. If we put God first in our lives, and desire to honor Him in all we do then none of these other things should be a problem.

What kind of name have you established for yourself? How do others react, when they see you coming? Do you deal fairly with people? Do you place a good name above wealth on your list of priorities? Do others want to spend time with you? Does your behavior strengthen your good name, and demonstrate that you are a born again child of God?

Heed the above scripture, and make a good name for yourself in this world. It is pleasing to God and He will bless you for it., You'll be a great witness for Him through your behavior, and you'll have a sense of security knowing there are many people willing to help you if you are ever in need. All the wealth in the world can't buy you the things that a good name and reputation will provide. Like most things of great value in the world, a good name and reputation are free so there are no excuses, anyone can afford them.

If you have a prayer request and would like me to pray for you, leave me a message and I will be more than happy to do so. May God bless you.

Stay Focused

Matthew 14:22-33 (KJV) In this scripture, Jesus directs his disciples to board a ship while He sends the multitude of people before Him on their way. He then goes up into a mountain alone to pray. When He finished praying, the ship  the disciples had boarded was in the midst of the sea, being tossed upon the waves by strong wind.  Jesus heads toward the ship walking on the water. The disciples didn't know who or what was coming toward them, and they cried out in fear saying it was a spirit. Jesus tells them immediately that it is Him walking toward them, and not to be afraid. Peter then says to Jesus, if it is You then allow me to walk on the water toward You. Jesus tells Peter to come, and Peter steps out of the boat, and begins walking on the water heading toward Him.When Peter saw the might of the wind, however, he became afraid, began to sink, and cried out for the Lord to save him. Jesus stretched out His hand, and caught Peter saying to him in verse 31 "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" (KJV) Jesus and Peter boarded the boat, and when they did many came and worshipped Jesus, saying in verse 33 "Of a truth thou art the Son of God." (KJV)

In the above passage of scripture Peter while focused on Jesus, steps out of the boat and walks toward Him on the water. Before he reaches Jesus, however, Peter becomes distracted by the strong wind and the waves it was creating. When Peter takes his eyes off Jesus, and begins focusing on the wind and the waves he begins to sink, and Jesus has to reach out and take his hand. After taking his hand, Jesus ask him why he doubted, and told him he was of little faith. Peter would not have began sinking had he stayed focused on Jesus, and not allowed the circumstances surrounding him to make him afraid.

Like Peter, there have been times in my life that I have failed to stay focused on God, and allowed fear to engulf me. A prime example of this occurred in the winter of 1983. I was sound asleep, when my Mother came into my bedroom, and woke me up to inform me that my twin sister had gone into labor, and that I was about to become an Aunt. Nervous and excited, I jumped out of bed got dressed, and drove over to pick up my grandmother who rode with me to the hospital. When we arrived at the hospital we entered my Sisters room, kissed her, told her we loved her, and then we headed off to join other family members in the waiting room. My Grandmother was a  great Christian woman and she was as calm as I am hyper.

I had prayed several times over the nine months of my Sister's pregnancy asking God to let it go  smoothly, and for her and the baby to be fine. Several hours passed before the doctor came out, and advised us that my Niece had entered the world, and that she was perfectly healthy. I was elated. My elation was combined with fear, when the doctor followed this news with a "but", it was as though I was in a car and had slammed on the brakes. In what seemed like slow motion he said Mom is having a little difficulty, she developed toxemia, and she has a great deal of swelling. We had to perform an emergency c-section  and we are having a hard time getting her blood pressure up, and getting her stabilized. What? Okay here's where my panic set in. I would be devastated if anything happened to my sister. At this point, just like Peter, I took my eyes off  God, and let fear and panic consume me. I was sinking. I paced around wringing my hands, and I must admit I had allowed  fear to throw me into an agitated state.

While lost in  panic, I had failed to notice that my Grandmother was no longer in the waiting room. I hadn't seen her in at least ten or fifteen minutes. I headed down the hall to the vending area thinking maybe she had gone for coffee, she wasn't there. I looked down the adjoining hallway to see if she had gone for a walk, and she had not. The last place I checked I found her. I entered the restroom, and found my 76 year old Grandmother alone, and praying. I, like Peter, had focused on the turmoil around me and reacted to it with fear and panic. My Grandmother had stayed focused on God, and remained steadfast in her faith. She wasn't sinking.

What a powerful moment, and tremendous lesson my Grandmother taught me that day. When I walked into that restroom, and found her praying it had a huge impact on me. My Grandmother took my hand, and we exited that restroom together. We returned to our seats in the waiting area, and shortly after, the doctor returned to say my Sister was stable, and doing well. Praise God, my Grandmother's prayer had been answered.  To God be all the praise, honor, and the glory. The doctor then informed us that we could see the baby at that time, and my Sister a bit later. We headed to the nursery, where they brought my Niece to the window in a red stocking. She looked adorable. I was overcome with emotion, I cried tears of joy, and thanked God for her, and for stabilizing my sister. A bit later, I was allowed to see my sister, and I told her how much I loved her and how grateful to God I was that she and the baby were doing well. I thanked her for making me an Aunt, and told her my niece was beautiful.

After my sister came  home from the hospital, I told her how our Grandmother had reacted to the concerning news the doctor delivered initially, and how I had found her in the restroom alone and praying. I confessed to  her that I recognized immediately our Grandmother was walking in faith, and I was walking in fear. After I finished telling her that story, we thanked and praised God together. We thanked him for the answered prayers, we thanked him for her health and the babies, and we thanked him for blessing us with such a special Grandmother.

Friends I want to encourage you to stay focused on God, and remain steadfast in your faith. Don't make the mistake that Peter and I made, and lose focus. When we lose focus, we sink.

If you have a prayer request and would like me to pray for you, leave me a message and I will be more than happy to do so. May God bless you.

The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-18 (KJV) Tells us to be strong in the Lord, and to put on the whole armor of God so that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil, and the evil in the world. It tells us to be armed with the truth of God's Word, the breastplate of righteousness (live a Godly life obeying the truth of God's Word), the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet (certainty) of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. This scripture also reminds us to pray always.

When we wake up each morning and prepare to face the day, we need to start out by praying and putting on the armor of God. The world is filled with traps and avenues that Satan can use to knock us off course, when we are living Godly lives. As witnesses for the Lord we must be conscious of the fact that Satan and his little foot soldiers are among us, and would love nothing better than to see us fall.

People are one avenue that Satan can use to throw us off course, if we are caught without our armor. It could be a nagging boss who says something negative to you the moment you arrive at work each morning. It could be a complete stranger who pulls out in front of you and then gives you a rude hand gesture as though you were at fault. It could be a neighbor that complains about something on a daily basis. It could be a salesperson in the mall, it could be anyone, anywhere, at anytime. When we have a difficult encounter with another individual and allow it to have a negative affect on our mood and our attitude for the remainder of the day or if we respond to them in an ungodly manner then we are allowing Satan to win the battle, and he loves a victory. Whenever you encounter people that are difficult, utilize your God given armor, and press on.

Finances, and the state of the economy are other areas where Satan may try to wreak havoc, and attempt to steer us away from God.  Don't fall for it. You are armed with faith, stay strong. You may be in a situation where you lost your job, you can't afford to pay your bills, you are barely getting by, you can't afford gas for your vehicle, and you see no way out. This is a test of faith. Don't be one of those individuals who begins spewing negativity such as, I'll never find a job, where is God in all this if he loves me, I've been living right and look what it got me. If thoughts like this begin entering your mind and exiting your mouth, stop yourself immediately. It is easy to have faith, when things are going well. It is situations like this that are true tests of our faith. Stay focused, and pass the test. Do your part and God will do His. Don't give Satan the victory.

Satan can wreak havoc on your spiritual life in small ways also. For instance, he can spend the day having you drop everything you pick up, and knocking over everything you bump into. When you have a day that begins like that, don't wait until you drop the next thing or spill something, tell Satan right then to back up off of you, tell him you're wearing God's armor, and that you refuse to allow him to steal your peace, joy, and contentment. Tell him you are going to continue down the path of righteousness that God has directed you down, and that he is wasting his time. Praise God and rebuke Satan.

When we are faced with difficulties, aggravations, trials and temptations, it is not the time to take off our armor. Quite the contrary, it is in these times that we need it the most. Our reaction to the issues that we face, from small to large, can serve as a great testimony, and witness to those around us. Speaking The Truth

Luke 4:15 (KJV) Says "And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all."  Luke 4:28 (KJV) Says "And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath."

In the above scripture Jesus was in Nazareth teaching God's Word, which we know is truth. In the beginning as we see in verse 15 His teachings were well received, and He was being glorified by all. By verse 28, however, He was being rejected. His teaching was going well until he began teaching things that the people did not want to hear, at which time, as we are told in Luke 4:29 (KJV) the people "rose up, and thrust Him out of the city,"

There are people in this world that do not want to hear the truth when it applies to an area in their life that needs work. When confronted with the truth, some individuals become angry, defensive, and reject the messenger in the same manner that  the people in the above scripture rejected Jesus.  Most of us  have experienced someone getting angry at us for being honest with them, or for inadvertently discussing something unaware that it is a touchy subject for that person. People who love us should be able to point out areas of concern, and tell us truths about ourselves without our becoming angry, and defensive.

We all need family members and friends in our lives who love us enough to be blatantly honest with us. Since not a single person in the world is perfect, it is safe to say that we all make mistakes, and that we all have areas that could use work.  If someone who loves us, offers advice that can be helpful in preventing us from making a mistake, or points out an issue that needs addressing in our lives,  we should be open to hearing it without becoming indignant toward that person. If we know someone loves us and wants what is best for us, we should be willing to listen to what they have to say.  We should be able to admit they have a good point, if we feel they do, and we should be grateful to them for bringing the matter to our attention.

Have you ever had someone you love ask your opinion about something, and tell you they wanted you to be honest, only to realize the moment you comply that is not at all what they wanted? The second you give them your opinion and it doesn't match theirs they become angry, indignant, defensive, and they're  ready to end the conversation. What they wanted, as it turns out, was not your honest opinion, but rather for you to agree with them no matter what. They wanted you to tell them exactly what they wanted to hear, and that is all they were open to hearing. Just like the people in the above scripture, as long as Jesus was saying what they wanted to hear all was well.

It's normally well received if we tell someone the shirt they intend to wear doesn't match their pants, or that they have a few stray hairs standing straight up on top of their head. We are usually rewarded with a thank your for speaking these type truths, but when it comes to matters that are of any substance it's a whole different ball game.

We should never go at someone with a truth we feel they need to hear in an abrupt manner, using harsh words. When we do that, we increase the chances of them rejecting us and our advice instantly, and understandably so. If you have some truth you know you need to approach someone with, do it with tact, love, and kindness. You may still be met with anger and indignation, but you will be blameless in your approach.

When we are confronted with an issue pertaining to ourselves, and we  react in a hostile way, it is more often than not because we know what we are being confronted with is the absolute truth. The next time someone you love and trust approaches you with a truth, hear them out, consider what they have to say before you react, and handle the situation in a Godly manner.  Be grateful for the people around you that are willing to step up to the plate, and  tell you the truth, when someone needs to. Remind yourself that in order for them to do so they must really love and care about you. If they didn't, they wouldn't bother; because as we've established doing so is certainly no picnic. We all make mistakes, we have all been  wrong at one time or another, and we need to have honest loving family members, and friends in our lives to help keep us on track. We need people that are willing to bring things to our attention that we should be addressing, but have either ignored, are ignorant of, have overlooked, or simply don't want to face. Remember, none of us ever reach a point in our lives where we are  above needing an occasional look in the mirror.

Moving Mountains

Matthew 21:21 (KJV) Says "Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done." The fig tree is often used in the Bible to refer to the nation of Israel, and here Jesus caused the fig tree to wither in order to illustrate Israel's desperate condition.

We all face mountains (problems) in our lives at one time or another, and through faith they can be moved. How many times have you said or heard someone else say in problematic situations that there's nothing left to do, but pray? We should always pray first, not wait and proclaim it as a last ditch effort.

The above scripture tells us that it is faith that moves mountains. The problem is we tend to forget to call on God when we need him, and instead opt to rely solely on ourselves. We should always do what we are capable of doing in any situation, but we must remember to rely on God as we face the challenges that come our way in life. Jesus tells us in the above scripture that we must have faith, without doubt, if we want to remove a mountain.

When we face difficulty in our lives, if we fail to rely on God's ability, and instead rely solely on our own we are in major trouble. We know that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us because the Bible tells us so in Philippians 4:13 (KJV). We need always to remember that there are no mountains to large to be moved by almighty God. There is absolutely nothing that is beyond His power, and through faith and reliance on Him we can witness the mountains in our lives being moved.

There are many examples given to us in the Bible of the least likely people being chosen by God to move tremendous mountains. These people did not rely on their own ability, but rather  trusted God to accomplish great things by working through them. Noah could have easily become overwhelmed, and collapsed in despair, when called upon to build the ark, but he exercised faith in God and his ability, and built it.  Joseph went from slave to prince, David slew Goliath, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, and those are just a few examples of the great things God accomplished by working through people who having faith without doubt, opted to trust and rely on Him instead of  relying solely on themselves. The Bible also gives us many examples of Jesus healing people, and then sending them on their way advising them that their faith had made them whole.

If you have a mountain in your life, whether it's a health problem, financial problem, job loss, a task that seems to great for you,  or whatever mountain you may be facing, I would like to encourage you today to go to God in prayer, have faith without doubt, rely on and trust in His ability, and not your own. Wait patiently on God, and remember whatever the outcome He knows what is best for us, and He has a plan for each of our lives. As the Bible tells us in Romans 8:28 (KJV) "we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose."
