John 4:6-14 (KJV) Says "Now Jacob's well was there, Jesus therefore, being wearied with His journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto Him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto Him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."
In the above scripture when the Samaritan woman questions Jesus about asking her for a drink of water knowing that the Jews had no dealings with the Samaritans, He tells her that if she only knew the gift of God, and who she was talking to she would have ask of Him, and received living water. The living water being the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus advises her that whoever drinks water from Jacob's well will be thirsty again, but those who drink the water that He gives will never thirst again, and will have eternal life.
Many people desire things they are certain will quench the thirst of their heart, only to discover after having these things in their possession that they remain unsatisfied. They are still thirsty. For instance, I've heard people say if only I had a new car, and didn't have to drive this old jalopy I'd be happy. I never know when it's going to break down. Every time I get in it I have to wonder if I'll make it to where I'm going. Then you see them a few months later and they're driving a new car, but as it turns out believing that a new car would bring them happiness was an inaccurate assumption on their part. They are still unhappy, and have come to the conclusion that it is going to take more than a new car for them to reach the happy zone. They are still thirsty. A new car sitting in their driveway makes their house look a bit run down and they can't have that. They'll be happy as soon as they buy a new house. They buy the new house, have the new car in the driveway, and it's on to the next desire because they are still thirsty.
So many people are looking for happiness in material things, and true happiness cannot be found there. Look at all the celebrities who have access to any material thing they could possibly desire, yet they are not happy. They continue to thirst. There is only one thing that can quench the thirst of an unhappy heart, and that is the Holy Spirit. When you accept God's precious gift of salvation, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus told the Samaritan woman you will never thirst again. You become a new creature in Christ, and you experience a peace and contentment like you have never before known.
If you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, I would like to encourage you to do so immediately. Don't hesitate, or procrastinate because we are not promised tomorrow. God loves you, and He is always listening, so do it now, right where you are. Go to God in prayer, ask Him to forgive you of all your sins, tell Him you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and that He rose again, invite Him into your heart and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior. If you prayed this prayer, and you believe it with all of your heart then you have been born again, and have become a new creature in Christ. How truly Awesome that is, and my God bless you.
If you have a prayer request and would like me to pray for you, leave me a message and I will be more than happy to do so.
